Learning To Sew

It’s a big project to take on but for her first official sewing project my oldest daughter has decided to make her Halloween costume this year.

The plan is to be Katara from Avatar : the Last Air Bender – in her fire Nation outfit. We are using this image as the inspiration for the costume.

About a month ago she asked me to reach out to my mum to see if she had any spare sewing items that were needed for the costume. We thrifted all of the fabric, elastic and velcro needed, except for the red bolt that is the main fabric.

So today we took the time to draft an A-line skirt, cut it out, iron it and sew it together. All new skills for my not-so-little Sanura. She has been practising her sewing on my machine with a piece of paper and a needle that hasn’t been threaded for about a week now. Tomorrow we will work on the arm bands and bracers.
